 The month of May signifies a time of increased light, regeneration and growth.  But there are other aspects of this magical month to consider. May is number five in the year's lineup and correlates to the five elements in all matter and the five senses that connect the brain to the tangible world. 
For the martial artist, the five tenets of Taekwondo; Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance, Self-Control and Indomitable Spirit, act as a code of conduct and guide for ethical living.

Welcome to the December 2021 edition and the 143rd issue of the 
Chosun Taekwondo Academy and United States Taekwondo Academy
E-newsletter! 

. A recent New York Times article posed the question, Could Covid Lead to Progress? The author, Steven Johnson states, "the period from March 2020 to May 2020 almost certainly marked the most significant short-term change ever in worldwide human behavior.Vast sections of the planet effectively froze in place for a few months and then adopted, en masse, a whole new set of routines to flatten the curve and slow the spread - a genuinely new trick for Homo sapiens." 
 
As the year 2021 closes, instead of looking at COVID-19 in the rear-view mirror and returning to life as usual, another mutation of the virus has emerged, threatening uncertainty and concern yet again. But the good news is that we have survived, adapted and even thrived... a testament to the code and creed that
martial artists live by. 
"Never Give Up!"

The global COVID-19 Pandemic is almost a year old and although we can never minimize the tragic consequences of this crisis, we have also discovered some unexpected silver linings... mainly in the area of outreach using the online ZOOM platform. In that effort, we have upgraded the online experience by enhancing the video and audio capabilities, thanks to some generous donations from several CHOSUN students. KAMSAHAMNIDA!!!

Dear Martial Arts Enthusiast,  Welcome to the January 2021 edition and the 134th issue of the  Chosun Taekwondo Academy e-newsletter!  So many thoughts come to mind in summing up the year 2020... for many it was a year of devastation and tragic loss, some found new opportunities but every person on earth was effected in some way by a force of nature that we were woefully unprepared for. But here we are, still fighting an invisible foe, now with more weapons to help us, and as they say, a light at the end of the tunnel. We are indeed living through a crisis. Although the word crisis, connotes an unstable or crucial time, it also implies a turning point containing the seeds of hope and transformation.  The words on our Zen calendar page for December seem to capture the essence of the moment: Surrender to what is. Let go of what was. Have faith in what will be. ONWARD AND UPWARD...NEVER GIVE UP! The Chosun e-newsletter Archive Volume 11 #12 December 2020

 Dear Martial Arts Enthusiast, 

As 2020 comes to a close, it is safe to say that it is a year no one will forget. But a global pandemic does not adhere to a calendar and although hope is on the horizon, we have a distance to go. Our CHOSUN community remains strong due in no small part to the underlying tenets of taekwondo that infuse our martial arts practice with rectitude.  
COURTESY   INTEGRITY   PERSERVANCE   SELF-CONTROL   INDOMITABLE SPIRIT 
Writing about lessons learned from the pandemic, Pope Francis commented,
"To come out of this crisis better, we have to recover the knowledge that as a people we have a shared destination. The pandemic has reminded us that no one is saved alone. What ties us to one another is what we commonly call solidarity."

We owe a debt of gratitude to all health care and essential workers. The burden of this crisis and the sacrifice they have endured will never be forgotten!
